Angry Birds Star Wars 2 Coming in September

Angry Birds Star Wars is a getting a sequel, and it’s coming to mobile devices on September 19th, developer Rovio announced today.

Angry Birds Star Wars 2 will follow the first 3 episodes of the Star Wars franchise, Episode 1: The Phantom Menace, Episode 2: Attack of the Clones and Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith. The game will also include new characters and players can participate as the antagonistic pugs in the new “Join the Pork Side” feature.

The game will also support integration with Hasbro’s Telepods line, that allows players to unlock new characters and change their lineup by placing toy figurines on top of their devices cameras. Angry Birds STar Wars 2 will have more than 30 Telepods figures when the app is launched.

Rovio will also launch a new line of merchandise for the new game, which will include toys, books, clothing and other accessories.

“Angry Birds Star Wars was a blockbuster hit for us and Lucasfilm with over 100 million downloads since its release,” said Rovio executive vice president of games Jami Laes in a press statement. “We are thrilled to be able to introduce the exciting next chapter in the Angry Birds Star Wars saga to our fans around the world. Some of the most amazing character additions are versions of young Anakin, Mace Windu and Darth Maul. Hasbro’s Telepods technology also provides a great way to extend the experience beyond the app and bring a whole new dimension to the gameplay.”
